  • My furnace is less than 10 years old and a contractor tells me I need a new furnace. Is this true? Or AC is less than 5 years old?

Most furnaces come with a 20 year warranty on Heat Exchanger and 5 to 10 year on parts. Most Central Air units come with a 5 to 10 year Compressor and parts warranty. 99% of the time it can be repaired. Please, Please get a 2nd or 3rd opinion before you spend $1000's of dollars you can keep in your pocket when all you may need is JUST A REPAIR.

  • What kinds of things can cause my air conditioner to operate inefficiently?

A dirty air filter, improper refrigerant charge, and air flow are the biggest culprits. Too much or too little refrigerant can cause your air conditioner to overwork. The same is true if the air flow across the inside coil is low, the coil may need to be cleaned.

  • My air conditioning blower is on but I am getting little airflow.

This is caused by a packed and dirty air filter, weak blower motor or dirty evaporator coil on furnace or air handler. Step one is to replace the filter. Also, while in the mechanical room look around for water on the floor. Thats a sign that your coil may be frozen. If it is, turn the AC off at the thermostat and run your fan option on the thermostat. Call us once it thaws out and we will be happy to help.

  • Are all air filters the same? How often should I replace them?

In an area like Colorado, where we lack oxygen already because of our altitude, it is important to know what filters work best in our environment. We recommend using the thin, cheap, filters in the summer time as cold air sinks and it needs the least amount of restrictions in order to push the cold air upwards into your house. In the winter you can switch to a thicker filter, but beware, if they clog up it will cause your furnace to short cycle and overheat. For customers concerned with allergies, we recommend using a UV light. Numerous health studies have shown that germicidal ultraviolet light - uvc - is very effective against allergies, asthma, mold, mildew, fungi and any DNA based airborne viruses, bacteria and spores. ... It can reduce suffering from allergies. The UV air cleaners help control germs that make asthma worse.
